(2020. 07. 19.) Jesus Teaches About Prayer - Luke 11:1-4

Youth Family Talk:

1. Answer honestly. What in this world makes you feel the most comfort?

Maybe lying down on your sofa? The warm bed during a cold winter morning? Ice cream after a tough day? Binge watching Netflix? There are a lot of cliché answers to this questions, but they are all answers given to you by the world. Don’t let the world determine how you feel.

During my time in college, I always felt the greatest peace and comfort when I was praying to God at our campus house of prayer. There were a lot of reasons to be stressed out in college, but whenever I came to God in prayer, I believed that all my troubles would be erased. It was true! None of those problems ever did me any harm, I am perfectly fine as I‘m typing this today. Lay down all your burdens to God today!

2. Why might God’s response of a “no” to prayer be an incredible act of his mercy and grace?

In Luke 11:11-13, Jesus says...

11What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent;12or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?13If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Other times, it’s the opposite. We ask God for snakes and stones because we don’t know what’s best for us. Even though we might be 100% sure that doing this one thing or getting this other thing will be the best for us, God says no, because he knows what’s even better. Jesus obeyed God even to the cross, because he trusted that God‘s plan is the best Plan.
