Biblical Thinking 2 - The Fine-Tuning Argument

최종 수정일: 2020년 5월 26일

In a paper titled “A Recent Fine-Tuning Design Argument,” by Robin Collins we are given scientific evidence for the intelligent design behind our universe.

If we were to discover a large dome in Mars which was set up just right for life to exist: the temperature and humidity just right, with an oxygen recycling system, and a whole system for producing food, we would believe that someone must have built this.

The universe is the same way, but it much more amazing ways. So much so, that to argue for life by chance via the Big Bang and the evolution theory is less probable than to say that the domed building on Mars was built by chance by a volcanic eruption.

Read the 5 examples given below:

These examples are not fine-tuning examples that only allow earth-like life to exist, as if there could exist a different type of life if these perimeters were different. These examples argue that atoms could not even come together without this very specific design. No life of any form could come from a universe of strictly sub-atomic molecules.

Did you notice the probability of 10 to the 60th power? For example, to win the Mega Millions lottery, you have a 1 in 300 million chance which is not even 10 to the 9th power.

An eminent Princeton physicist Freeman Dyson says, “There are many... lucky accidents in physics. Without such accidents, water could not exist as liquid, chains of carbon atoms could not form complex organic molecules, and hydrogen atoms could not form breakable bridges between molecules”.

These are but five of hundreds of criterion needed to be met for life to exist. Next time you hear about the universe being made from chance and chaos, consider rather the majesty of God!
