1. What does it mean to be born again? 예수님이 말씀하신 “거듭나다”는 것은 무슨 뜻인가요?

예수님은 니고데모에게 “사람이 거듭나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라를 볼 수 없다”고 말씀하십니다. 니고데모는 예수님이 하신 말씀을 이해하지 못하고 “사람이 늙으면 어떻게 날 수 있사옵나이까? 두번째 모태에 들어갔다가 날 수 있사옵나이까?” 라고 묻습니다. 예수님은 물과성령으로 나지 아니하면 하나님의 나라에 들어갈 수 없다고 말씀하시며 우리의 힘과 능력이아닌 성령의 능력으로 예수님이 우리를 위해 행하신 일을 믿는 믿음으로만이 영생을 얻을 수있다고 말씀하십니다.

Jesus said to Nicodemus “ unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God”. Nicodemus was confused, because he didn’t understand what Jesus said. Jesus explained “unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God”. Jesus said it is not our own efforts or strength, but the power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to believe in

what Jesus had done to have eternal life.

2. How can we enter into the kingdom of God? 우리는 어떻게 하면 하나님의 나라에 들어갈 수 있나요?

3. What did Jesus do so we can have life forever with God?우리가 영생을 얻도록 예수님이 하신 일은 무엇인가요?

니고데모는 바리세인으로 율법을 온전히 지키는 열심으로 의롭게 될 수 있다고 믿었던 사람이었습니다. 하지만 율법을 완전히 지키는 일은 불가능한 일이었습니다. 그가 예수님을 찾아왔을때, 예수님은 거듭나야지만 하나님의 나라를 볼 수 있고 하나님 나라에 들어갈 수 있다고 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님은 이스라엘 백성들을 살리기 위해 모세가 놋뱀을 장대에 들었던 것처럼예수님도 그렇게 되어야 한다고 말씀하십니다. 예수님은 우리에게 새로운 생명, 영원한 생명을 주시기 위해서 자신을 내어주셨습니다. 우리는 그 사실을 믿음으로써 새 생명을 얻고 하나님 나라 백성이라는 새로운 정체성을 얻게 됩니다.

Nicodemus was a Pharisee who believed that man can be righteous by keeping the law of God perfectly. However, it is not possible to keep the law perfectly, because we are all born sinners. When he came to Jesus, Jesus said man should be born again in order to enter into the kingdom of God. Jesus said He has to be lifted up, as Moses lifted us the bronze snake to save the Israelites who sinned. Jesus gave Himself to give us eternal life. We can have a new life and new identity as a citizen of the kingdom of God.
